One of the features the Ribeira Sacra offers is the well-known heroic viticulture. Term coined due to the conditions of the soil, which complicate, singularly, the works on the vines and make the viticulturists and wine-producers to challenge vertigo on the terraces, many of them with slopes which could get to be of the 100%, impeding thus its mechanization.
The labour is 100% manual and very selective, the production per vine does not exceed the 3 Kg, and this makes possible that we can offer unique wines of exceptional quality.
Our vineyards are located on slopes situatedon river’s valleys and gorges, and are characterized by producing limited vintages of grapes which have very concentred flavours. The grape harvesting is performed totally by hand. The access to the vineyards is through trails and, sometimes, even by the river itself, and the harvesters must challenge vertigo on the terraces, carrying out the heroic viticulture.
The plots are influenced by a continental microclimate, with long and hot summers and warm autumns, perfect for the ripening of our grapes. The rainfall is high usually, and the wind could get to blow strong in the area, due to the help of the shape of the valleys, and these features are the ones which provide its character to our wines.
